Introduction to feature writing

THREE DAY COURSE

This course starts by helping the feature writer to find and develop the idea. How to interview effectively and research wth results. Getting and using the best quotes. Planning and structuring a feature. Getting started: the intro. Choosing what to include and what to leave out. Ending the piece: conclusions. The language of features.

Over two days the tutor guides all those involved in feature writing for newspapers, consumer magazines, technical titles and PR on how the feature works. At the end of the second day, each delegate submits a feature idea which they will write up in time for the third and final day of the course held 10 days later.

The third day is a copy clinic where delegates have their work critiqued and examined. There will also be a look at better and other ways of doing it.
