ONE DAY COURSE

This course is aimed at anyone who checks pages proofs for publications, documents, letters or anything where 100% accuracy is important. (It’s worth remembering that silly mistakes that could have been detected reflect badly on your organisation.)

A hands-on practical course on the best way to read and correct copy on both screen and paper. The course includes:

  • A guide to the official editing and proof-reading marks and how to use them.
  • Proof-reading on screen - the pitfalls.
  • Why spell-checkers can be more trouble than they’re worth.
  • A guide to the common errors: incorrect telephone numbers or prices; spelling mistakes in headlines and captions; headlines or captions incorrectly positioned.
  • How to proof-read complicated pages of information, technical papers, and tables.
  • How to cut copy and make extra lines. Managing your proof-reading.

The day centres on practical exercises using some set pieces but also uses pages supplied by the delegates.

Course material supplied include a complete set of notes including a guide to the proof marks.
