Grow your own subs

THWO DAY COURSE

Often described as "the engine room" of a publication, the subs' desk is where reporters' and other writers' copy is polished, edited and prepared for publication. This course is an intensive and practical introduction to sub-editing.

Delegates will learn and practice the all the basic skills needed for sub-editing, including:

  • text handling and news angles
  • ensuring the story is structured correctly
  • checking facts
  • house style
  • spelling and grammar
  • writing strong headlines, standfirsts and captions
  • proof-reading
  • liasing with reporters, designers, editors, production staff and printers
  • the role of the sub-editor

Who should attend
Reporters and other journalists wanting to get to learn the basics of sub-editing; writers wanting to learn to tighten up their copy; journalists - especially freelances - wanting to widen their job opportunities; sub-editors who have no formal training
