If you are looking for new UK jobs or thinking of changing your job, you should have a good look at your CV, experience and qualifications and come up with a gap analysis of what you need to do to move further in your career.
For example, if you want to go into secretarial work, you may decide that you need to take additional courses in a word processing application; or if you want to work in an hotel you may need to take a food and hygiene course.
Too often people expect employers to invest in all their training, and seem reluctant to do it themselves, but in fact we should be looking at it ourselves as part of our own personal development.
An employer is much more likely to take us on if we have shown willing and motivation in bringing our educational development up to scratch. One potential problem we have in this, though, is the financing, although we may know that we need a particular qualification to progress further, we may not be able to afford it.
Many local councils offer training grants or even free courses and it is worth looking down that avenue. If you have shown that you are capable of analysing our own educational needs and acting on it, then many employers will be impressed.
